American Studies - Taradash - Fall Research Paper

What should my bibliography look like?

There's no perfect answer; you will need a mix of high-quality sources that provide evidence and arguments that will help you answer your research question. For a 5-7 page paper you will have a minimum of 6-8 sources, but you may need more, depending on your topic. Here is an example of a well-rounded bibliography for a paper of this size:

  • 1 reference article (from Credo, Infobase, or Britannica, etc.)
  • 3-4 academic books
  • 1-2 primary sources
  • 1-2 scholarly or "serious" articles

Tips for Evaluating Sources & Taking Notes

Evaluating Sources
Remember to be a media-savvy reader and a fact checker. Interogate your sources! Not sure about the source? Ask yourself these three questions from the Stanford Civic Online Reasoning project:

  • Who's behind the information?
  • What's the evidence?
  • What do other sources say?

Simple Note Taking Template
Use this tool (found in the SG Google Template Gallery) as a way to organize your notes on your sources. Once you open the document it's in your drive; just rename it and start typing away!
