Nathaniel P. Hill Memorial Library

Library Mission

The Nathaniel P. Hill Library serves as a vital center of campus intellectual life. It supports the academic program by providing outstanding services, resources, and facilities for research and study. The library also advances the broader educational mission of the school by awakening interest in a broad range of ideas, by inspiring a love of learning and scholarship, by ensuring that students and faculty are effective users of ideas and information and by providing spaces where all members of the school community can explore multiple curiosities about their world.

Library Policies on Clientele & Services

Clientele:

The students, faculty & staff, and families of faculty & staff at St. George’s School are our first priority. Trustees, Alumni, and parents of St. George’s students are our second priority. Ocean State Libraries/LORI patrons are our third priority.

Access to services:

First and second priority users may access the library collection, spaces, and services during the hours we are open. The Archives has limited hours, and use of those collections is by appointment only, as scheduled with the archivist.

Due to security concerns on our school campus, the library is not open for third and fourth priority clientele to visit in person.

Third priority clientele may borrow circulating materials through Ocean State Libraries and OLIS/LORI interlibrary loan.  Circulating materials are defined as Adult Fiction, Adult Non-Fiction, Graphic Novels and Adult DVDs. New Books and New DVDS are for local school-campus use only. Due to our status as a school library in which our primary focus is the support of the school’s academic curriculum and the educational needs of our first priority clientele, Reference Books, juvenile materials, Reserve materials, and Archives & Special Collections materials are not available for interlibrary loan.

Interlibrary Loan Policy

Hill Library complies with the LORI Interlibrary Loan Code.

Circulating materials may be loaned to third and fourth priority clientele under the following criteria:

    • Books loaned within OSL: 3 weeks with 2 renewals possible barring any holds or recalls. No late fees.
    • DVDs loaned within OSL: 1 week with 2 renewals possible barring any holds or recalls. No late fees.
    • DVD series loaned within OSL: 3 weeks with 2 renewals possible barring any holds or recalls. No late fees.
  • Third priority patrons are responsible for all damage or replacement costs according to the price set in the item’s catalog record.
    • OSL Patrons (third priority) may pay these costs online through the OSL website or to any public library in RI.
  • All patron information and requests are confidential, and interlibrary loan requests will be processed within 3 business days (defined as days on which the library is open for service, excluding weekends and holidays).
  • Hill Library has the discretion of deciding in individual instances whether a specific item can be provided for interlibrary loan.

All members of the Ocean States Libraries Public Library consortium have free access to library materials from all over the state.

To request a book or movie:

  • 1. Search for the title or author in the OSL Library Catalog (below)
  • 2. If the item is available click on "Request It".
  • 3. Enter your library barcode and PIN (or contact the librarians for assistance).
  • 4. Choose your pickup location (St. George's School).
